CAP - Christians against Poverty
CAP was established in 1996 by John Kirkby, who wanted to use his experience in the consumer finance industry to help those struggling under the burden of unmanageable debt in his home town of Bradford. 15 years later, the charity has grown from one man and a turnover of £10,000, to a national charity with 190 centres that has developed professional systems to help more than 19,000 people a year out of debt and poverty.
Such is the standard of CAP's work that the charity has been awarded a Centre for Social Justice Award, a regional Business award for 'Customer Focus', and the UK Charity Times Award for 'Best Charity to Work For' in 2006 and 2007.
We also came top in the Sunday Times' 'Best Small Companies to Work For' list in 2008 and 2009 and in 2010 won the Sunday Times' 'Best Leader' award, as well as winning Debt Counsellor of the Year in the 2011 Credit Today awards.
